University City

University City, also known as UC, is a community located just east of La Jolla, west of the 805 Freeway, and north of the community of Clairemont.

University City is home to more than 47,000 people. UC is named for its proximity to the area’s university, The University of California, San Diego, better known as UCSD. The west side of University City is comprised mostly of attached homes, condominiums and townhomes. As you travel east, more detached, single family homes are found, though there is a mix of residential style homes throughout the community.

University City Amenities

UC is a very desirable area for students, professionals, and families alike because of its central location within the county and proximity to the University, freeway and shopping. The area has also been getting ready for its newest addition, the trolley! The San Diego trolley system, which is currently only offering service up to the Old Town area (11 miles south of UCSD), will soon be extended to reach the University City area. The project, which began in 2016, is due to be completed sometime in 2021.

Besides offering service to UCSD, the trolley will also be stopping at University Town Center Mall, also known simply, as UTC. The mall, which has been going through a change of its own, started a complete renovation in 2017. The remodel is due to be completed sometime in 2018.
